VFit Kids – Lets Get Ready for Dreamland
VFit is back with a BRAND NEW series and this one is for the kids! Join Shari as she brings us a soul soothing and calming set of stretches for our little ones to enjoy. Rest is of utmost importance for our kids growth and development, (and parental sanity), so enjoy this new series:
Studies have shown that kids who practice mindfulness tend to have better self-control and attentiveness in class. Meditation also helps alleviate stress, depression, ADHD, and anxiety in children.
Although the rate of children participating in mindfulness and meditation is rising, it still only includes around 9% of today’s youth. (https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/08/health/yoga-meditation-rising-cdc-report/index.html)
Even though, meditation has been proven beneficial to people of all ages, including children, it should never be forced or used as punishment. Instead, provide gentle encouragement and model by example.
The following video is a great place to start as it will guide your child (and perhaps yourself) off to dream land. It includes a gentle stretching session followed be a mindful visualization to help ease your child into a goodnight’s sleep.
Having always had a love for physical fitness, I taught group fitness throughout college, and upon graduating was hired to teach public school.With the demands of a new job and a new husband, exercise became my time to unwind.
