I’m not sure why kids dislike time-outs and naps.  LOL!  In my world these are activities to be savored like fine wine and expensive chocolate.
 
The following video is about 10 minutes.  Tell your family that you need a ten minute time-out and enjoy a mild upper body stretch along with a mental break. 
 
You can always lock  yourself in the bathroom and put on headphones if needed.
 
DON’T forget to lock the door—they will find you. No worries though, the headphones will drown out their cries.

When not in the gym teaching, I enjoying spending time outdoors hiking and exploring with my husband and 3 children.

We are here to kick of 2019 and help each of you reach your goals with this simple life hack: welcome to Batch Planning 101!  Fail to plan, plan to fail.  Batch planning limits the possibility of having #fails in 2019 because with these tips, YOU are in charge of your year.  You will make ‘every minute matter’ and make this your best year to date!

This week’s theme: “Batch Planning 101”

VFit health tip of the day from Rachele Jaegers…BATCH PLANNING ! In this season of stress and chaos, or any time of year, batch planning can be your life saver.

Decision Fatigue is a real condition. When you are faced with a million decisions a day to make, having to make one more decision for yourself can cause overload to your brain. And that’s when we tend to just give up, go through the drive thru, stop exercising and switch to anxiety mode.

So what is batch planning? It’s grouping the majority of your daily planning into 15-30 minute periods.

Instead of having to make a million decisions throughout the day (what to wear, what to eat, when will I workout, where are the kids needing to be, etc), it’s incredible how taking 15-30 minutes a day to map out as many things as you can, can change your life.

And the goal isn’t that you need perfect execution of your plan. That’s not reality.

Instead, aim to take some time each day (it doesn’t matter when. For me it’s at night before bed and first thing in the morning) to scratch out a plan.

Pen and paper work wonderfully! Simple writing things out will regroup your brain and ease anxiety.

Here are a few of my personal planning habits I do virtually every single day and take no more than 15-30 minutes:

//Pack as much of my kids lunch the night before. Mornings are chaos and I know that. The more I have ready, the easier our days start.

// Have the coffee set for the next day. Coffee is life, it’s a treat to have it waiting to greet me good morning!

// Put out my workout clothes and have the kids pick their clothes out. Having my workout gear out helps keep me accountable to actually use them ?. And my kids like knowing what they are going to wear too. And I like not fighting with my kids on what they are going to wear!

//Plan out your daily schedule. I like to plan out what I hope to get done in 3 hour blocks. The more you get in the habit of planning, the more you will figure out what works for you best.

I have a monthly calendar the whole family uses to post main events and happenings, but I need to sit down daily and write out my personal to do list. And then I group it into 3 hour blocks of when I’ll execute each item.

// Right now I’m doing best with meal planning 3-4 days at a time and not a whole week. Because life is nuts with 3 kids and planning a whole week is overwhelming and we were wasting food.

Again, the more you practice planning, the more you can adjust for what will work for you.

I write my meal plan and THEN hit up the store for what I need. We eat more variety, I enjoy cooking more and we don’t get kitchen burn out which happens when you shop without a meal plan and buy the same things every trip.

// Batch cook some easy to throw together food. I make a batch of shredded chicken, boiled eggs, a few salad dressings and cut up veggies once a week. It saves a lot of “hangry” experiences from happening.

These are my tried and true tips! They help me run a family of 5 and a growing business! Without batch planning, I’d be a chicken running around with my head cut off.

It’s not about executing a perfect plan or getting everything done all the time. My to do list often goes unfinished and just transfers to the next day.

Planning is not meant to be stressful. It’s meant to give you some structure and a place to make mundane decisions all at one time.

Because even the easiest of decisions that you make on a daily basis, can cause you Decision Fatigue and that’s a condition none of us have to live with. It’s exhausting, debilitating and keeps you from living your best.

We are here to fill your buckets one last time this year with some of our weekly INSPO roundtable talk. And this may be the most important subject of all.

This week’s theme: “The greatest wealth is health”

You can have all the money in the world, the biggest house, the fastest car, every clothing item, kitchen gadget and electronic device you’ve ever desired for, but if you don’t have good health; if you don’t take care of your own well being, what does any of that matter at the end of the day?

We are in a society that wants instant gratification, quick fixes, sales and deals ALL.THE.TIME! 

You can be devoted to material items all you want and sign up for every cleanse/diet/program under the sun, but if you aren’t putting in the actual TIME and ENERGY to take care of yourself, then there’s little left of you to enjoy this life that you are working so hard to build.

When it comes to spending money on our own health, people are stuck in the mindset of trying to save a buck – going for a cheap option at the grocery store, or the luring low gym membership to ‘get a deal.’

As we all know by now, you usually get what you pay for! Case in point:

// That sale on Fruit Loops for $2/box, isn’t really a sale at all when you think about it. Sure, you save money at checkout compared to the box full of whole grains, real nuts and no added sugar that costs $6/box, but you’ll end up paying more in the long run in the form of a weak immune system, mid day energy slumps and health problems causing you to miss work, go to the doctor, etc. 

// You could do Youtube workouts till you are blue in the face and they are all free, but is that really the best way to maximize your workout time?

Does that trainer know your body? Can they see you and help correct your form? Do they cheer you on by name and make sure you are showing up consistently? Can they tailor a program that is well rounded and SAFE?

Sure you did 100 burpees, but if you didn’t do a single one correct, you are going to get HURT! And getting hurt, once again will cost you in the long run.

//You may have the world’s cheapest Planet Fitness by you for $9/month and then then don’t use it. 

Or you may pay for an expensive gym membership and it is still of no more value if it’s not being USED!

A large portion of people end up donating money to the gym each month, and feel a web of guilt for not going.

This cycle has to stop!

Each year, we like to set an intention for the whole team to focus on.  For 2018, we chose : the year of today’s, not tomorrows.  This was meant for each member to focus on the present, the here and now, and to make the most of each and every day. To not put off things for “later” or a better time.

For 2019, we have landed upon another TIMELY quote, because at VFit, that’s what is at the core of our philosophy about fitness and life – truly making the most of each and every valuable minute you each have in life.

Make every minute matter.

That right there is where our focus will be for  2019, and starting today we are geared up to help YOU make each minute matter in your day.

Your time is incredibly valuable – it’s the moments of each day that create the life you lead, and you have much more control than you may realize to choose how you spend those moments.

This philosophy is the driving force of why our platform even exists.

It was TIME that was the barrier between our founder Rachele being able to get back to the gym, along with the added complications of childcare, work, and the commute time to the gym.  She just KNEW there had to be another way to get her workouts in.

Exercise isn’t about fitting into a pair of skinny jeans or looking good for an upcoming event.

When we couldn’t find another solution to replace everything Rachele loved about her gym (community, accountability, working out with others, support….),she took the leap of faith and began The VFit Studio.

She rounded up two other instructors she knew would help with her vision, loaded up a first week schedule with roughly 20 classes, and got word out  by reaching out to women she knew would benefit from having the ability to make each minute count.

Because as many of you can relate, self care is oftentimes the first to go once we feel we have ‘no time.’  Once work gets busy, the kids schedule gets packed, and your to do list is a mile and a half long.

It’s 30 minutes start to finish, often less time than it would take you to pack yourself up and head over to your local gym. The Key to Success

When we came across the week’s quote, we knew it was the ONE.  We are firm believers in the notion that your vibe attracts your tribe.

And at VFit, our tribe is one heck of a supportive, positive collection of wonderful women from across the country.

Beyond the live streamed classes and trainer team, what really sets our studio apart is just how STRONG the VFit community is. If you read our “member success stories”, nearly every single one talks about the community and team support that VFit gives it’s members.


“Successful” doesn’t mean we have met all of our fitness goals, are financially wealthy, or are out winning marathons.

You’d be hard pressed to find a more DIVERSE group of woman, but no matter the differences and distance between us (literally, we have members from Maine to San Diego), they all support and lift each other up –  ALWAYS!

// We know that when teammate Kate from Maine logs in, she’s blocked out the time in her day to take 30 minutes to fill her tank.  She see’s all of her VFit teammates making the time to show up as well and knows that she too can make that 30 minutes a priority.

Having the accountability of trainers she’s connected too and friends she’s bonded with in class, helps motivate her to show up, even on the toughest of days.

// We know that teammate Bridget in California has forgone her old Bachelor TV show habit and swapped that for an earlier bedtime, so she can wake up at 515A and get into her regular 530A class FIVE DAYS a week.

She couldn’t figure out how to get workouts in with her current routine, so she sat down and took a hard look at how she spending her time. Thanks to the FUN and motivating teammates she gets to meet up with each morning through VFit,  her new guilty pleasure is exercise.

// We know that when trainer Ceci lights up the screen with her charismatic smile and full swagger dance moves, the whole team smiles a little bigger and leaves class feeling renewed.

As a Trainer, she’s sharing a true love of and  passion for dance with our members and regardless  that we can’t dance as great as Ceci can, her motivation and cheer rubs off onto us all.

At VFit, we are in the middle of our 21 Day Fitness Reboot with a group of over 100 rockstars and the whole process has us motivated for this week’s topic……

Today we are talking about seizing the day.  It’s not about ‘having’ time.  Because really, we all have the same amount of time each day.  It’s about MAKING TIME.

For our VFit 21 Day Fitness Reboot, we designed a game we like to call Yango! It just so happened that it’s also really fun to shout out YANGO each day as you complete your mission.

In Yango, you have a playing card with 21 daily fitness/self care challenges. They range in time from 4 minutes to 30 minutes. Some are create your own workouts, some involve stretching, some require joining a VFit class and much more.

 It is up to each participate to strategically plan and complete ONE square per day.

The goal of this game is to reboot our minds and bodies to show up for 21 days straight and to realize that we DO all have some time each day for our own health and well being. It’s been amazing to watch play out!

If you are finding yourself in a rut, or are feeling way too overwhelmed by life to fit any fitness in, we are here to help share some strategies for making time FOR YOU!

What it comes down to is your priorities. When it matters enough – you find the time. 

You don’t miss important kids activities, work meetings, or appointments, right? Because you set those as non-negotiable and carve out the time to make them happen.

The same habits can be built into exercise/self-care, but it’s going to take implementing some of the same procedures and habits you give to other priorities in your life.

We have worked with thousands of clients over the years and when life gets busy and the going gets tough, many sacrifice their own self-care as the first thing to go.

And you can’t water from an empty can, so we are here with some of our TOP tips to make sure that your health and well being stay a priority as we head into the craziest time of the year.

If you’ve already found your fitness solution, are getting in your 4-5 workouts a week and feel like a total rockstar, our hats go off to you! Share that magic with someone around you today and invite them to join you. You are way ahead of the game and maybe don’t even need to read on …

BUT, if you aren’t quite there, and you are looking for a way to fit. It. All. In.

We are here to help you!

Time is the the one resource you can’t BUY.  You truly can’t make it either, but with some simple steps, you can SAVE yourself plenty of time AND get you health/fitness in.  Here are a few of our top VFit tips:

// Tip 1 – PLAN and PEN out the time you WILL show up to workout. We will spend the most time on this one tip, because it’s the most important thing you can do.

Sign up for a class, make a workout date with a friend, schedule it in your calendar, set reminders – do whatever it takes to give that workout time PRIORITY in your day.

When we get new people trying out VFit, one of the first objections we hear is, “Well I don’t think your platform will work. You are asking me to book my workout in advance and my schedule is just too busy for that.”.

To which I often reply, “How is NOT booking your workouts going for you right now?”

And as you can guess, their workouts are not happening because they are not set with a high enough level of priority or with a built in plan.

At VFit we ask you to schedule and book your workouts. That’s not meant for punishment if you can’t make it or need to cancel.

It’s a PROVEN accountability measure and you are 100 times more likely to show up, if you have set that PLAN in place.

// Tip 2 -Don’t look at things so black and white. You do not need 30-60 minutes every day, in order for your workouts to make a difference to your life.

If you can only get in 3-4 days of longer workouts, but still make it 5-10 minutes other days to just SHOW UP and do something – that is amazingly powerful.

Again, we have worked with A LOT of people over the years. Those who fit movement and exercise into their lives MOST days of the week, are far more successful than those who just show up here and there.

If you aren’t getting in workouts right now, consider mapping out the rest of your day to find 5 minutes and do an at home workout?

Here is a quick circuit you can do to get your heart going and help you FEEL great in just five minutes: 1 minute jumping jacks, 1 minute dancing, 1 minute squats or stairs, 1 min wall sit, 1 minute plank on the floor or against a wall. (this is a great example of some of our Yango challenges that are getting our team to just SHOW UP consistently).

// Tip 3 – Arm yourself with SUPPORT! We are human beings, we are not wired to be successful alone. 

If you aren’t getting workouts in and have NO one around you to support you to do it … find your tribe! There is a tribe out there for everyone, we promise.

Whether at an in person gym, or with an online platform such as VFit where we come to YOU live to cheer you on, pick you up when needed and surround you with the most supportive and fun teammates out there.

// Tip 4 – get it done before your day begins. Morning workouts get done before the chaos of your day has a chance to derail you. Plus, you start your day having completed something and it fires you up with the momentum to keep crushing life the rest of the day.

It’s not going to be easy to get out of your warm bed, it never is! But when you treat your morning workouts as non-negotiable, have your clothes set out and coffee ready, and honor yourself with the sacred time of day for YOU – you’ll find you make a habit to start showing up.

And we believe, that good habits once established, are just as hard to break as bad habits.

Early mornings are THE most popular time of day at VFit for a reason. Our team is built of go-getters, doers and rockstars – they know that if it gets done in the morning, it’s done for the day!

Our jam packed live streamed online fitness classes start at 3A PST and go all the way to 930A PST many days.  We even have a VFit EXPRESS series of classes Monday through Friday that are 15 minutes start to finish.  And if you can’t get a live class, we offer a full video library of on demand classes of each of our formats.

Today we are talking success and when to start reaching for your goals.  You know us pretty well by now, so we want to share a big secret for you……

The true key to success is to start RIGHT NOW, because there’s no magic ‘I’m ready’ day!  Seriously, there is no day you will completely feel ready! You just have to dive in and make it happen.

We know you have goals in your head you are looking to hit? We all dream about goals that we feel we “should” be able to achieve, but we push them off for another time, fearing we just aren’t READY yet!

Wonderful goals like one day I’ll do a 5k… or I plan to join the gym….or I am going to spend some time doing something for me. …. Or start a book …. Or maybe travel to another country.

The real key to reach these goals is to start before you deem yourself ‘ready.’ 

Mind-blowing we know!

One of our FAVORITE and we mean favorite quotes came from the incredible Michael Jordan.

And he said,”You’ll miss 100% of the shots you never take!”

This has always struck a cord with us, because this is also 100% true!

Michael Jordan was THE best at his craft and he only made about 50% or less of his shots! Let that one sink in for how you approach life.

Let’s take a subject we have 100% passion for – exercise.

If you wait for the conditions to be perfect – ie: your kids not needing you anymore to cart them around, your kids to be napping while you workout, a gym that is closer, a little more motivation, to lose 10 lbs before you start, or anything in between – you are going to miss 99% of your chances to just show up and MOVE that body!

Even showing up for 2-3 workouts a week, will translate into 100-150 PER YEAR! Are you working out that much right now? It’s not a hard number to reach, but most out there feel if they can’t work out 5-7 days a week, why bother.

If you are waiting until you are “ready”, before you know it, weeks, months and possibly years have gone by and because you didn’t think you were “ready”, you now have a much bigger mountain to scale.

What is ready anyhow?

Although it sounds promising, proper maybe, ready can oftentimes mask hesitation and a lack of a plan. You don’t know what to do (which is A OK to admit), and so you do what you know how to – nothing at all.

If you have a body, a heart and a brain that is alive and working then YOU ARE READY!

You just need to find your tribe, to show up and to TRY!

// If it is reading a book, find a group book club out there and sign yourself up. In person, or virtual. Our members started their own book club, most of them having never met each other before, but sharing a common bond of VFit. One member brought it up, and others jumped on board. It was that easy.

// If it is running a race, find a race that looks fun! Don’t go sign up for a marathon if you have never been a runner, you may find you don’t even enjoy running and that’s ok too (90% of our trainers actually hate running!). Find a 5k, sign up, print up a training schedule and start!

// If it’s getting back in shape and feeling good about YOU again, this is one we are experts at.

Owner Rachele of VFit dishes out this advice often – “The only way to get back at it, is to get back at it.”

So go back to last week’s inspo, shut that negative voice up in your head that is doing you no good, sign up for a fitness class and SHOW UP!

99% of us cannot do it alone – don’t beat yourself up for that. As humans we were built to be part of a team and around others. So join a group! Hire a personal trainer! Join VFit!

MAKE YOURSELF accountable and by golly, just start! 1 minute is fine if that’s all you make it.

But if you want to make things happen in this short life we are given, just make it happen and start now!  There’s no magic I’m ready day to get there and make your plans a success.

Let Positive Self Talk Be the LOUDEST Voice Inside Your Head

Let positive self talk be the loudest voice inside your head

Today we are talking about that voice inside you head.  Imagine what it would be like if you let POSITIVE self talk be the loudest voice in your head each day.

Alright, we hope we aren’t losing you already with this one. Voices in our heads?  But you know what we are talking about. That teeny tiny (or at times BIG and LOUD) voice that comes up during the day as you go about your business.

If you aren’t sure what we are talking about, take the next 24 hours to take notice of just how many times that voice pops into your head. Then come back and read this post.

We are willing to bet, that inner voice is guiding more of your day than you realize…..

// You see a pile full of dishes in the sink and you groan at the thought of having to do them all.

// You look at your to do list and you want to crawl back under the covers, hoping it does itself by tomorrow.

// Your fitness trainer asks you to hold a plank and before you even hit the ground, all you can think about is how long is this going to take – will I be strong enough?

// The pile of dirty clothes is never ending and for once you just wish there was NO more laundry to do.

// Your boss sends you an email, and before you even have a chance to open it, you think “what now?!”

Any of the above strike a chord?  Well TODAY, right here, right now, we want you to take a moment and flip the switch with that voice in your head and turn up the positivity.

It is usually as simple as adding in an “I get to,” “I can,” and “I will” into each thought.

With the example above, here are some options:

// Dishes in the sink – look at that pile!  I have a roof over my head, the means to buy groceries, and the food to make nourishing food for my family.

I’m able to move my body freely, have hot water in my home and purchase soap, and I get to wash those dishes, so that they are ready and available to me for the next meal I have in my home.

// The mountain of a to do list – my day is full!  There are so many projects and tasks I can take on today to make my life fuller.  I’m a capable woman who is going to take on breakfast, projects with my work (in the home or through work), to launder the clothes that I have the means to purchase and own, and cap off the night under my own roof (possibly right next to your significant other and family in tow!).

If there are things on your to-do list that you truly do not need to do and bring nothing of value to your life – YOU have the control to sometimes just say NO and take them off your lists.

But for everything else – be grateful you life is filled with so many opportunities to GET TO DO things throughout the day.

// Fitness challenge in your workout – look at me go!  I’m so awesome and strong!  Not only did I have the intent to take a class, I had the will to follow through with my intention and SHOW UP FOR ME.

I’m able to be a part of a fitness class, challenge myself from head to toe and when my trainer hands me challenges – I am grateful for the opportunity to grow stronger each class and improve week after week. The joy is in the journey and it’s ok if I can’t do everything today – I SHOWED UP and I CAN sure as heck try my best.  

I love my body and I’m proud of myself for honoring it!

Starting to feel a little better already about your day and what’s next?

Today we are giving you the 72 hour #POSITIVEMINDSET challenge.

For the next 72 hours, try and change your inner voice to be POSITIVE!

It’s ok if you aren’t perfect, we aren’t either.

But what an eye opening challenge this is and by the end of the 72 hours, we  hope you find that by adding in more positive self talk, the negative talk will start to be crowded out.

Your brain is THE most powerful muscle in your body. Use it to its best and train it daily and often.

This is a surefire way to boost your morale each day and that positive feeling with spill over into EVERY task you conquer and it’s even known to be contagious to those around you.

WAKE UP EARLY, GO TO BED SATISFIED

Today we are talking about your daily END game… which is to go to bed each night feeling SATISFIED… ACCOMPLISHED and like you made the MOST of that day.

And while everyday may not always be counted as a total WIN, this is the attitude we build ourselves up to strive for day in and day out!

You only get this ONE shot at life, don’t take one single day for granted.

So how do we aim for this feeling of satisfaction each night as we hit the pillow?

It takes going backwards a bit to that moment when you FIRST WAKE UP.

It has been proven that the most successful and HAPPY people out there, have a solid morning routine!

It just makes sense. How can you run the day, if you can’t even start your day on the right foot?

Here at VFit, we are firm believers in a solid morning routine to kick off each and every day. 

If you set yourself up for success in the morning, that success trickles and multiplies throughout the rest of your day. 

Some of our top tips for building a solid morning routine include:

// Meal and exercise planning each Sunday, so that for each day of the week ahead, you have prioritized and set aside time for your workouts, have set up your menu for food and have all the things stocked that you’ll need (we’ll dive deeper into this for next week’s inspo!).

Your schedule isn’t the same week to week, you need to take time to sit through what your upcoming schedule is going to look like, and PLAN accordingly.

Planning doesn’t need to be high tech, take a long time, or be complicated. It just has to happen! A plan starts your day in action!

There will be no extra need to think about what is for breakfast/lunch/dinner, when you are going to fit in your workout, or other day to day decisions that if left unplanned, lead to decision overload and where most fall off track.

This simple weekly ritual will give you time to see your week at a glance, and take time to work around what is on your schedule coming up.

A goal without a plan is just a wish!

// Setting aside the clothes you will wear the next morning, so that decision is made. Again, decison overload is a real condition and the more you can set up in your pre-game, the better off you’ll be at LIFE.

Setting out your clothes (workout and work/day clothes) is like a standing date you won’t want to let down!

// NEVER EVER, EVER, ever hitting the snooze alarm.  Ever! Sounds harsh, but we are FIRMLY ANTI-snooze around here. Snoozing is wasted time in your precious day on every level.

Set that alarm for when you need to actually wake up, and do yourself the favor and wake up on that first alarm.

The ‘extra’ zzzz’s you get after hitting the snooze are poor quality, won’t bring any benefit to your day, and often times just leave you oversleeping and regretting all the things you now missed or need to rush to catch up.

Set that alarm across the room, make it your favorite song, do whatever you need to do to just GET UP on this first try.

Bonus high fives for yourself when you conquer this ritual, the fact that you did something hard right out of the gates and that is just getting out of bed!

// Chug a large glass of water first thing!  This wakes up every system in your body like a good ol jump start and gives your body a nice hydration boost – gearing it up for the day ahead, awake, and ready to MOVE! This is one of the most most simple and effective tips you can do to improve your health – we promise!

// If you are a coffee drinker, invest in a machine that you can set the night before.  Then when you come on down to that kitchen, your coffee is ready and waiting for you.  Or whatever your morning drink of preference is in the morning – make it a ritual and enjoy it.  Have everything you need to make it on hand and set out for you the night before.

// Find something you LOVE, something that makes you feel good, and do it EVERY morning. 

For us, it may be no surprise to you, but it’s getting in an early bird workout. Working out early takes you from reactive to PROACTIVE, it sets your mind straight, gets your intentions ready for the day, and exercise releases FEEL good hormones into your body. We call it hooking up to an IV of happy juice and productivity.

It should feel darn goooood to take care of yourself and make yourself a priority.  Because you should be.  Every day!

But this morning ritual can be anything that fills your cup. Bible study, inspirational readings, listening to a podcast, journaling, a brisk walk – just take 10-30 minutes a morning for YOU!

That may mean waking up earlier, but once you realize what a gift this is to your life, you will start waking up the second that alarm goes off – we mean it!

Doing something for YOU, that makes YOU feel fulfilled before the world comes at you with its demands, is one of the MOST AMAZING gifts you can give yourself.

Take care of YOU first.

We believe so strongly in the importance of early bird workouts that we have our schedule jam packed for both coasts to get them in each day of the week (and slightly later on the weekends).

So there you have it, our top tips for ending your day with satisfaction. It all starts with how you wake up.
