
Rest, Restore & Relax
Ahhhhh … everyone, it is time. Time to take a deep breath and say to yourself, I’ve made it!
I’ve made it through the holidays. Celebrated every which way. Shared joy. Gone WAY out of my routine, and now I am ready to get back to normal. Which we know, normal is still crazy busy, so own this fact as well!
But before you go ahead and do that, we have some unexpected advice that fits particularly well right now.
Dare we suggest you SLOW DOWN.
Say what!?!
You are thinking, “you are a fitness studio, don’t you want me to go and get sweaty and get a huge endorphin rush?”
Well yes, and no. We want that for you of course, but we also want to make sure your self care ALSO involves slowing down.
Becoming mindful.
Adding yin to your yang, through classes like our near-nightly Yin Yoga classes, which are so popular we have it on the schedule every Sunday through Thursday nightly.
We want you resting, like truly taking a rest day. Possibly still doing light stretching, yoga, or walking, but taking rest.
We want you taking your sleep seriously. Your body needs that time to recover. If you aren’t hitting 6-8 hours, finding ways to make adjustments to work to get there. And if you can’t get there, seek out help and resources. Work to unplug earlier in the day, set a comforting setting in your bedroom – take your rest seriously and your body will thank you.
Relaxing is so underrated.
When we think relax, we think vacation (but that can’t be every day, we wish!), or if we decided to take time out to relax, we feel guilty or lazy.
Give yourself permission to take a time out and take time for you, each and every day. It truly will change your level of health and happiness.
Managing stress and getting adequate sleep are also top tips to achieving a healthy weight. When we are running on empty, tired and stressed, our body elevates the hormone cortisol, and that signals the body to hold onto extra fat as fuel.
So yes, taking an Unwind class at VFit can be more effective to your health goals some days, than a Tabata class! Every good trainer out there knows this and should be sharing this secret with their clients!

10 minutes is barely the time it takes for three songs to play on the radio. Believe us, you HAVE the time to do this. Make it a priority to take these time outs in your day and you’ll find increased clarity, more contentment, and joy in your day.
If that 10 minutes feels good, keep at it! Schedule that time to SLOW DOWN. It is going to take practice. Our culture isn’t built this way, but your mind and body were not built to run 24/7.
